Welcome to Bury St Edmunds Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society

Following our successful production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Patience, a reflection of our Society's 1903 roots, we are now returning to the great Broadway musical tradition.

Stephen Sondheim is a giant of the musical stage, and we're proud to have acquired the rights to present at the Theatre Royal from 24th to 28th April 2012 his 1971 musical Follies. This tells of a reunion of the Weismann Follies (on the Ziegfeld model) that flashes back to the earlier lives of the players. It's sometimes happy, it's sometimes sad, and its love elements are sometimes romantic and sometimes unrequited. But it's a theatrical masterpiece, with a fantastic Sondheim score that includes such standards as Broadway Baby, Losing My Mind, and I'm Still Here.

Sondheim was described by the great Jerry Herman as "the only one who keeps on taking the musical theatre to new places" - so why not see why this flattering definition remains relevant, by booking your tickets on 01284 769505 or on-line?

Looking ahead, we are pleased to announce that our second show in 2012 will be the new Cameron Mackintosh version of the classic David Heneker musical Half a Sixpence (23rd to 27th October 2012), and we have already decided that in spring 2013 we will be presenting Hot Mikado and in autumn 2013 we will be reviving the terrific show Fiddler on the Roof.

We will be holding our AGM at 7:30pm on 21st February 2012 at Trinity Methodist Hall, Looms Lane, Bury St Edmunds () - doors open at 7:15pm. Society members can access the agenda and the minutes of last year's AGM from the members' page of this site.

The Society is offering an award to two promising young people about to embark on a full-time course of study in the performing arts. Details of how to apply can be found on the Alan Holt Award page of this site.

If you'd like to become a member of BSEAODS, or even if you just fancy coming along to a rehearsal to see what happens, please feel free to or call us on . More details, including an on-line membership application form, can be found on the join the society page.
