Welcome to Bury St Edmunds Amateur Operatic and Dramatic SocietyNotice of ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The Society's AGM is to be held on Tuesday, 26th February 2013 at 7.30pm at Trinity Methodist Church Hall, Looms Lane, Bury St Edmunds. The doors will open at 7.15pm. All fully paid Members, Friends of the Society and Honorary Lifetime Members are welcome to attend. As usual, refreshments will be provided. The Committee highly encourage all active members of the society to attend. Our President, Mel Barnes, has received the Noda review for Half a Sixpence from Julie Petrucci, our Noda Regional Representative. It's an excellent review - even with the misspellings! You can find it on our Half a Sixpence page. Flash, Bang, Wallop - What a Show! Congratulations to everyone involved in our recent production of Half a Sixpence! It was a thoroughly entertaining experience and had audiences clapping their hands and singing along from beginning to end. Be sure to check the show page regularly, as we will be posting photos, reviews etc in due course. Our next production is Hot Mikado, which will play in the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds from 14th-18th May 2013. East meets West head-on in this hilarious 1940's-style update of a Gilbert and Sullivan favourite. Featuring an intoxicating mix of styles and influences, classics such as "A Wand'ring Minstrel I" and "Three Little Maids" are transmuted into show-stopping blues, swing, hot gospel numbers and scorching torch songs. Find out what happens when the clean lines and colour of Japanese design combine with the big band sights and sounds of popular American song and dance! The music is stacked with stellar vocal arrangements, pulsing rhythm, and music that will make everyone want to get up and dance! Tickets are available on 01284 769505 or on-line at www.theatreroyal.org. If you'd like to take part in this show, or help with it in any way, why not come along to one or both of the runs-through? These will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 11th and Thursday 13th December in Trinity Methodist Church Hall, Looms Lane, Bury St Edmunds. We are also holding open dance sessions - open to everyone - to help people 'get in the groove'. These will occur at 7.30pm on Monday 19th and Monday 26th November, and on Monday 3rd December. Auditions for the ensemble will be held at the same venue on Thursday 10th January from 7.30pm. Principle auditions will be from 12 noon on Sunday 13th January at Tostock Village Hall. You can find out more about the show and about the auditions on our Hot Mikado page. Looking well ahead, we are pleased to announce that our other 2013 musical will be Fiddler on the Roof (5th to 9th November). But this will be the Society's 110th Anniversary year, and as a special fixture we will be returning to the "Dramatic" in our name rather than the "Musical" by presenting Calendar Girls (20th to 24th August) - hopefully it will be a warm summer, and just the bare information now but more later! The Society is offering an award to two promising young people about to embark on a full-time course of study in the performing arts. Details of how to apply can be found on the Alan Holt Award page of this site. If you'd like to become a member of BSEAODS, or even if you just fancy coming along to a rehearsal to see what happens, please feel free to e-mail us or call us on 07969 909278. More details, including an on-line membership application form, can be found on the join the society page. Everyone welcome! |
